Our Finest Hour

It was June 18, 1940, that Winston Churchill stood before the crowded Houses of Commons.

It was a desperate moment in British history...

• English armies had been flung back on the continent.

• Large quantities of arms and ammunitions had been lost.

• Enemy bombers could be heard overhead.

In this desperate time, Churchill was called to take his place as a leader of his nation. Standing before his fellow countrymen, he finished his memorable utterance with these words: "Let us brace ourselves to our duties and so dedicate ourselves that if the British empire and Commonwealth last for a thousand years, we will still say this was their finest hour."

Perhaps this was to become their finest hour. Many believe that the British were never better than they were at that moment in history.

Listen church, what will history record of us in this generation?...

• Did we stand for truth?

• Did we stand for God, His will and way in life?

• Did we meet the challenge of taking the Gospel to the world?

• Did we love?

• Did we serve the Jesus in others?

• Did we lead them to the cross and the blood shed there?

• Were we people of genuine Conviction and Character?

• How about us personally, Were we conformed to His image?

Indeed – Can we say "This Is Our Finest Hour"?
